Oslo Negativ 2025: Norway’s Premier Photography Festival at Nasjonalgalleriet

Thor Fine Art is proud to highlight the ongoing Oslo Negativ 2025, Norway’s largest and most esteemed photography festival, hosted at the historic Nasjonalgalleriet / National Gallery in Oslo from October 11 to October 26, 2025. Organized in collaboration between the Møllersamlingen and Preus museum, this annual event transforms the iconic venue into a vibrant hub of visual storytelling, showcasing the work of over 100 photographers from Norway and abroad across more than 40 exhibitions spanning documentary, fine art, reportage, and fashion photography.

We are thrilled to share that Thor Fine Art is exhibiting the award-winning photograph “Time Continuity”, named Fine Art Photograph of the Year (Åpen Klasse) at the 2025 Norwegian Professional Photography Awards (Landskonkurransen). This evocative black-and-white image of undulating sand dunes serves as a profound meditation on the passage of time, capturing the interplay of light and shadow to explore themes of existence, life, and death. The jury praised it as “masterfully executed — the use of light, technique, and texture is exquisite.” Created by Torleif Lie, who also secured first place in the Nature category with “Desert Melodies,” and received the prestigious Gold Medal with Wreath for sustained excellence, this work invites visitors to engage with its powerful narrative within the festival’s dynamic displays.

This year’s theme, “Nærmere / Closer”, launched through Preus museum’s Open Call, delves into closeness beyond physical proximity, offering deeper dimensions of understanding and connection through photography. The festival features an enriching program of thought-provoking lectures, engaging panel discussions, captivating film screenings, and a vibrant atmosphere. Visitors can explore the Preus Festival Shop at the main entrance, offering a curated selection of photobooks and photography-related merchandise, while Juret Bar & Café, open until 1:00 AM, hosts special events with full bar service, creating a welcoming space for connection.

Oslo Negativ is a cornerstone of Norway’s cultural landscape, offering a dynamic platform for both established and emerging photographers. With roots in the nearly century-old tradition of Landskonkurransen (established in 1927 by the Norwegian Photographers’ Association), the festival connects national talent with global perspectives, including pathways to international competitions such as the World Photographic Cup. Set in the iconic Nasjonalgalleriet / National Gallery, which will soon undergo renovations, this year’s event provides a unique opportunity to experience world-class photography in a historic setting.
