This series explores the transformation of landscape into abstraction through aerial perspectives of Australia’s salt lakes. Seen from above, mineral processes generate vibrant chromatic fields that dissolve traditional notions of geography, shifting terrain toward painterly composition and perceptual ambiguity.
Linear infrastructures — bridges, roads, and dividing lines — introduce subtle traces of human intervention, measuring and segmenting surfaces that otherwise appear boundless and organic. These elements act simultaneously as orientation and disruption, revealing the tension between natural formation and imposed structure.
The work examines how distance reshapes perception: what begins as landscape becomes cartography, abstraction, and colour-field at once. By removing conventional scale and horizon, the images challenge viewers to reconsider the relationship between observation and interpretation, allowing the landscape to emerge not simply as geography, but as an evolving visual system.
