New Release – “Chromatic Cartographies #1”

Artist Comments This series explores the transformation of landscape into abstraction through aerial perspectives of Australia’s salt lakes. Seen from above, mineral processes generate vibrant chromatic fields that dissolve traditional notions of geography, shifting terrain toward painterly composition and perceptual ambiguity. Linear infrastructures — bridges, roads, and dividing lines — introduce subtle traces of human intervention, measuring and segmenting surfaces that otherwise appear boundless and organic. These elements act simultaneously as orientation and disruption, revealing the tension between natural formation […]

Great Art Is Born of Devotion, Not of Shortcuts

Photography is built on patience, vision, and skill. It takes years to understand light, composition, timing, and emotion. It demands failure, practice, and personal growth. What many now call “art” created by AI requires none of these. It is a shortcut, a simulation of creativity that bypasses the struggle that gives real art its value. Typing a few sentences into a machine and waiting for output is not authorship; it is delegation. This isn’t innovation, it’s appropriation reframed as talent. […]

A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Quality

In the heart of Skafså, near Holtebru, lies Kyrkjebø Snikkarverksted – a place where tradition, craftsmanship, and quality have been central for generations. The story began with Kåre Ingvald Kyrkjebø, born in 1926, who after completing his education at the carpentry school in Lunde, specializing in furniture design, established his workshop shortly after World War II. With a vision of excellence, Kåre not only built a business but also a home, completing the Kyrkjebø family house in 1950—a lasting symbol of his dedication and skill.

Equipped with precision machinery from renowned German and Italian manufacturers, the workshop quickly became a hub where timeless furniture and interiors were crafted with care and expertise. Each piece reflected Kåre’s unwavering commitment to quality and his deep respect for the art of woodworking.

For Gudmund Kyrkjebø, this passion for craftsmanship was instilled from an early age. As a boy, he spent countless hours in his father’s workshop, absorbing the techniques and traditions that would later define his own work. By the age of 14, he was already gaining practical experience in furniture-making and cabin construction. In 1994, Gudmund took over the family workshop, dedicating himself to continuing its legacy.

Since then, Kyrkjebø Snikkarverksted has continued to deliver handmade kitchens, furniture, and interior pieces – all characterized by meticulous craftsmanship and bespoke designs.

In addition to serving customers across Telemark and Southern Norway, Kyrkjebø Snikkarverksted has proudly collaborated with Thor Fine Art to create custom hardwood frame mouldings. These mouldings are crafted with the same care and precision that define Gudmund’s work, ensuring that Thor Fine Art can deliver bespoke frames of the highest quality to it`s Collectors. This partnership highlights the importance of supporting local artisans and preserving traditional craftsmanship while producing truly unique and exceptional art pieces.

In a world where mass production often overshadows quality, Kyrkjebø Snikkarverksted remains a shining example of the art of fine woodworking. With deep roots in tradition and a commitment to excellence, Gudmund Kyrkjebø and his collaboration with Thor Fine Art continue to inspire, ensuring that artistry and craftsmanship endure for generations to come.

Every item that leaves Kyrkje Snikkarverksted tells a story of skill, tradition, and a profound respect for the materials and the craft itself. Whether it’s a custom frame for a fine art photograph or a bespoke piece of furniture, Gudmund’s work stands as a tribute to the timeless value of genuine craftsmanship.
