The Miami Beach Architectural District

The Miami Beach Architectural District (also known as Old Miami Beach Historic District, and the more popular term, Miami Arto Deco District) is a U.S. historic district located in the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach, Florida.

The area was well known as the district, that Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace resided in a mansion in Ocean Drive. It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Sixth Street to the south, Alton Road to the west, the Collins Canal and Dade Boulevard to the north. It contains 960 historic buildings.

Art Deco or Deco, is an influential visual arts design style that first appeared in France after World War I and began flourishing internationally in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s before its popularity waned after World War II. It is an eclectic style that combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colors, bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation.
